Returns, Exchanges & Cancellations

At Sewn In The Wood, each gown is uniquely handcrafted, patterned, and tailored from scratch by Ashley Wardlow to your exact specifications. Because custom garments are created exclusively for your individual body measurements and design preferences, we handle returns, exchanges, and cancellations with specific guidelines to protect the artistry and labor involved.

1. Custom Gowns & Made-to-Order Pieces

  • All sales are final on custom-designed gowns, bridal wear, prom dresses, and made-to-order garments.

  • Once fabric sourcing, pattern drafting, or cutting has commenced following your initial deposit, we cannot offer refunds, returns, or exchanges for any reason—including event cancellations, theme changes, or weight fluctuations.

2. Fittings & Alterations

  • We operate on a "perfect fit" philosophy. For local clients, your design includes structured fitting sessions to ensure the garment curves exactly to your body as it is built.

  • Any minor adjustments needed during the scheduled fitting process are covered under your custom agreement. However, request changes to the design layout (e.g., changing a neckline or skirt style entirely) after construction has begun will result in additional structural alteration fees.

3. Pre-Made Items & Ready-to-Wear Accessories

If you purchase non-custom, ready-to-wear items or retail accessories directly from our storefront:

  • We accept returns or exchanges within 14 days of delivery, provided the item is unworn, unwashed, unaltered, and remains in its original packaging with all luxury tags attached.

  • The client is responsible for return shipping costs. Shipping fees from the original purchase are non-refundable.

4. Damaged or Defective Items

We inspect every stitch with microscopic care before a garment leaves our hands. In the rare event that an item arrives with a structural defect or shipping damage, please contact us within 48 hours of receipt at 224-651-3773 or hello@sewninthewood.com so we can immediately arrange an expedited correction or repair.
